A little about me…
Always painting and drawing from as early as I can remember, it wasn’t a hard choice to pursue my interest and passion in fine arts. I began my serious studies at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, with a BA degree in painting. It was here I was introduced to exciting new ideas, I developed my love of cinema and had my first tastes of travel and adventure abroad. I spent a lot of time in the USA, exploring the colour and character of the Eastern Seaboard. Many people see the influence of Edward Hopper in my work, which is certainly true, but it’s also something that I naturally absorbed from spending time in New England.
I would return to the studio to work from these observation studies, and I enjoyed plenty of success with group exhibitions in London and the North East. I am particularly grateful to the Curwen & New Academy gallery in London for discovering my work and their continued support of my creative efforts.
I decided to return to education and complete my Masters in Fine Art, taking a place at Winchester School of Art in Hampshire. I spent this time developing new techniques (both traditional and digital) and found a natural home within illustration, allowing me to continue creating one off works for exhibition whilst finding new commercial uses for my images.
Since graduating I’ve remained in the South, keeping close ties with the capital but living and working from a studio near Winchester. I continue to drive my own projects and ideas as well as developing my commercial illustrative work. Travel and a sense of adventure will always inspire my illustrations and I hope the years to come will bring new horizons and fresh discoveries!
